His Grace

In the following shabda, Guru Nanak Sahib ji makes this clear that how some people realize The Universal Creator and some don’t. Let us ponder over that shabda, which is on SGGS 1257:

Malār mėhlā 1.

Bāge kāpaṛ bolai baiṇ.  Lammā nak kāle ṯere naiṇ.

Kabahūʼn sāhib ḏekẖi-ā bẖaiṇ. ||1||

Raag Malaar, the bani of First Nanak.

In essence: Your clothes are white and your words are sweet. You have sharp nose (beauty) and black eyes. Oh Sister! Have you ever seen the Master (The question is asked to a person who looks beautiful in religious garb)?

Ūdāʼn ūd cẖaṛāʼn asmān.  Sāhib sammrith ṯerai ṯāṇ.

Oh all Omnipotent! If I fly and keep flying up in the sky, it will be only because of your support (what I am and what I have is all because of your grace)!

Jal thal dūngar ḏekẖāʼn ṯīr.  Thān thananṯar sāhib bīr. ||2||

I look in the water, on the land and on the banks of rivers. Oh brother! I see the Master present everywhere.

Jin ṯan sāj ḏī-e nāl kẖanbẖ.  Aṯ ṯarisnā udṇai kī danjẖ.

Akalpurakh, who has created you and gifted you with the wings (power/wealth), has also given you desires to wander flying.

Naḏar kare ṯāʼn banḏẖāʼn ḏẖīr.  Ji-o vekẖāle ṯi-o vekẖāʼn bīr. ||3||

If He graces me, only then I can be comforted (stop wandering/flying). Oh brother! As He causes me to see Him, I do.

Na ih ṯan jā-igā na jāhige kẖanbẖ.  Pa-uṇai pāṇī agnī kā san-banḏẖ.

Neither this body, nor the beautiful gifts will go with you, because it is just fusion of air, water and fire (Now the Guru gives his views in the context of the question he puts in the beginning of the shabda).

Nānak karam hovai japī-ai kar gur pīr.  Sacẖ samāvai ehu sarīr. ||4||4||9||

Oh Nanak! If one has Ekankar’s grace, one meditates on Him by adopting the Guru or a spiritual guide. Then this body remains absorbed in Ekankar.

Wishes
